Brussel Sprouts Can Be Good?

This is what I discovered when I was out at Avalon Restaurant last winter. Of course, the brussel sprouts were fried, which in my mind equals delicious, but still, I was surprised. Recently, I tried to make them at home with very tasty results. The recipe is simple enough that even Brian could handle it, without burning the house down this time. It has replaced asparagus as my go-to side vegetable. Seriously, check out how easy this recipe is below.

I know, I know, they look kinda ugly, but try them and you won't be sorry!

Ingredients:
-15 brussel sprouts or thereabouts, sliced in half vertically
-1.5 tablespoons of butter
-1.5 tablespoons of olive oil
-a few spoonfuls of minced garlic-If you're a garlic lover like me a few means four or five.
-grated parmesan cheese
-salt and pepper to taste

1) Heat olive oil and butter in a skillet over medium heat until butter gets foamy
2) Add in garlic and brussel sprouts, cut side down
3) Cover for around 10 minutes or until they can be pierced with a fork
4) Sprinkle with salt, pepper and parmesan cheese and enjoy

If anyone does try this, let me know what you think! Happy Friday!

  1. I look forward to giving this a shot! I've gotten on the Brussel Sprouts bandwagon of late, after getting them at Lolita - similar to above, but bacon and probably a little lard.

  2. I've done bacon and shallots with a little bit of olive oil and plenty of black pepper. We tried once with pancetta but since it was the thin pre-sliced type it didn't work out for us.
